Gibson & Gibson respects your privacy and understands that it is important to you that your personal information is protected and kept secure.

Gibson & Gibson’s privacy statement is informed by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).  We have developed this statement to inform you about the way we use your personal information and how we manage the personal information held about you.

As an ongoing part of our Quality Practice Standard accreditation your file may be audited, but this in no way constitutes a waiver of legal professional privilege that would otherwise apply.

Gibson & Gibson may also be required to collect sensitive information in the course of providing services to you.
Sensitive Information means any information or an opinion regarding an individual’s race or ethnic origin, political opinions, membership of a political or trade association or union, information regarding a persons religious and philosophical beliefs, sexual preference, criminal record or health information.
We endeavor to protect any sensitive information provided to us and will not collect any sensitive information unless it is provided to us by you, you consent to the collection, the collection is required by law or necessary for the establishment, exercise or defence of a legal or equitable claim.

The accuracy of your personal information

We take reasonable steps to ensure that the personal information we collect, use and disclose about you is accurate however, we rely on you or on third parties to provide us with true, accurate, complete and up to date personal information. If you believe that the personal information we hold about you is inaccurate or incomplete please contact us using the contact details provided at the end of this statement.

Security & storage

You need to be aware of the inherent security risks of transmitting data across the internet.  Data transmitted across the internet is sent at your own risk.

Gibson & Gibson takes no responsibility for the privacy practices of other websites that may be accessed via links from our site.

If we provide you with legal services, Gibson & Gibson has a professional and legal obligation to ensure your personal information is kept confidential.  We also have a legal obligation to store your personal information for a period of seven (7) years after which time your personal information will be destroyed.

Our privacy statement may change from time to time. All changes to our privacy statement will be published on this website.

The use of cookies

From time to time Gibson & Gibson may use “session cookies” in order to gauge what pages of our website are being utilised.  Gibson & Gibson does not use “persistent cookies”.
