Jon has led the Family Law practice at Gibson and Gibson since 1985. One of a small number of Accredited Family Law practitioners in Western Australia, Jon has more than 30 years experience in the areas of Family Law, Criminal Law and Administrative Law .

Jon is dedicated to helping individuals navigate the often overwhelming complexities of the legal framework. Being an accredited specialist in family law since 1989, he provides legal support to individuals in areas such as property and asset division, individual protection, division of family-owned businesses, divorce, grandparent’s rights, prenuptial agreements and adoption.

A Registered Dispute Resolution Practitioner and qualified representative for children, Jon is highly experienced in leading mediations between spouses, partners and/or parents and can be called on by the Court to act on behalf of a child in especially difficult separation matters. Jon also has a depth of experience in international child abduction cases under the Hague Convention.

In addition to his Family Law expertise, Jon has considerable experience across other key areas of law including Equal Opportunities Law, Social Security Law, Administrative Law, Personal Injury Law and Criminal Law where he has conducted numerous jury trials.

Passionate about all aspects of the Law, built on his strong need to effect social justice, Jon strives to produce fair and just outcomes for all his clients.

Rarely at rest, Jon has contributed to the development of the legal system through his involvement in the Law Society’s Courts Committee, his involvement as President of the Council for Civil Liberties in Western Australia, as a member of the Civil Rights and Law Reform Committee for the Australian Labour Party and a member of the United Nations Human Rights Association.

Jon was also a founding member of the Sussex Street Community Law Centre and is currently on the review committee for Legal Aid, an advisor to the Welfare Rights and Advocacy Service (WRAS), the Vietnam Veteran’s Association and it’s members, Dad’s Lifeline and an independent prison visitor at Bandyup women’s prison.

Jon was the inaugural winner of the Law Society Community Service Award in 2001 in recognition of his outstanding services to the community.
